Chop Suey! is a song by System of a Down. This song is on the album Toxicity which was released in 2001.
The expression 'Chop Suey' is Chinese stew, with meat or fish, plus bamboo shoots, onions, rice and water chestnuts. But that's just a description of the expression.
These are a few suggestions on the meaning of the lyrics of 'Chop Suey!'.
One theory holds that the lyrics are from a speech by Father Armeni who was speaking to the Armenian People after the Armenian Genocide of 1915. He asked God 'Why have you forsaken me, in your eyes forsaken me' and also said 'Self-righteous suicide' has taken place. Armeni was like the Zorba to the Greeks. Armeni is highly respected by Armenians. The song was dedicated to him and Armenia.
Some believe that the song 'Chop Suey!' is just part of the title. 'Suey' comes from suicide. Chop Suey-cide (Chop Suicide). 'Wake up!' is the beginning of the whole story and it meant to get you attention. 'Grab a brush and put on a little make-up, hide the scars to fade away the shakeup', is about people hiding their true identities. 'Why'd you leave the keys up on the table, here you go create another fable' means people lie to cover up the truth. Leaving your keys on the table is bad and so you create a story for why you left them there.
Other people are of the opinion that the song is about Jesus Christ and his execution (self-righteous suicide) and subsequent ascension into heaven.
