Zabulistan (Zawalistan) today Zabul is a historical region in the border area of today's Iran and much of Afghanistan, includes from Iranian-Afghan border of Sistan Basin to the other end of Zabul province of Afghanistan. The name probably covered in ancient times a much larger area, then Sistan Basin but generally this has been believed that roots may have been strated from the Sistan Basin. Because the Zabul province of Afghanistan just East of Kandahar province, at the foot of the Hindukush, bears its name. However not be confused with a small Iranian city of Zabol which was part of greater Sistan before being taken by Persians.
Geography
Zabulistan or identifies its boundaries with Helmand River. To the East would be Sind, and to the West be Persia (Iran) to the South would be Makran and to the north-west would be Aria and to the north east would be Kabulistan.
History
According to Persian mythology, the greater Zabulistan was the country of a hero named Rustam. In Shahnameh, Zabulistan and Sistan are used interchangeably, was the ancient Awestan name of the country between the range of the Hindu Kush and Makran, with the capital at modern old city of Qalat. Early Kabulistan's inhabitants spoke Awestan languages.
