X3 is the planned third film adaptation of the X-Men superhero comic books. The other movies were X-Men and X2. X3 is expected to be released in 2006.
The director of the first two movies, Bryan Singer, will not be returning for this sequel, because he will be working on the new film adaption of Superman. Although there has been no official announcement, it is rumoured that the movie will instead be directed by Joss Whedon [1] (http://www.moviehole.net/news/4206.html).
