The Wachowski brothers, Larry Wachowski (born June 21, 1965) and Andy Wachowski (born December 29, 1967) are film directors.
Born and raised in Chicago, the Wachowskis jokingly claim to have begun their collaboration as toddlers. Both dropped out of college to pursue show business and both overcame some major hurdles on their way to success. Before entering show business, they ran a carpentry business in Chicago while creating comic books in their free time.
Since their hit with The Matrix, studios are clamoring for whatever else they have ever worked on. Trimark has bought an unproduced script they wrote years ago, Carnivore, a creepy tale about a boarding house whose residents keep disappearing. The brothers will executive-produce it, while horror veteran George A. Romero (Dawn of the Dead) will likely direct.
The brothers admit to a love for telling multipart stories. "Because we grew up on comic books and the Tolkien trilogy, one of the things we're interested in is bringing serial fiction to cinema," Larry explains. "If you could have a film where you don't get to the hour-and-a-half mark and know, 'Okay, here it comes, the big wrap-up,' but instead you have no idea how the movie's going to end, I think that would be very exciting.". Andy puts his desire to shake up viewers a bit more bluntly. "We think movies are fairly boring and predictable. We want to screw with audience's expectations."
Andy has been married to Alisa Blasingame since 1991.
Personal Lives in the Media
(disputed — see talk page)
It is disputed whether this article should be included in Wikipedia.
In 2003, Larry's wife of nine years, Thea Bloom, divorced him on the grounds that she felt he had been dishonest with her in their personal and financial lives, and sought financial remedy. The following year, gossip emerged suggesting that Larry Wachowski had interest in transvestitism. However, references to this are controversial. It appears to have spread fast on the internet, such as the online edition of the newspaper the Arizona Republic writing "when you're touted as one-half of the creative genius behind the science fiction movie of the decade, morphing between the sexes is probably just another research trip." However, there are inconsistencies that should be noted, such as that some references claim he prefers the name "Linda," and some claim he prefers the name "Lana." Additionally, there's been much-picked-up reference to a Chicago Sun-Times article on the subject, but there doesn't appear to be direct evidence of this article existing. Finally, when considering this topic, it should be noted that it is speculation and rumour until directly commented on by Larry Wachowski.
