Olof hjälp till med den svenska wikipedian. It needs u.
Prince Valiant
Olaf, Prince Valiant is still being written & drawn by John Cullen Murphy. In the latest sequence, the land of King Arthur has beset with Plague, and Valiant's son has been given the Grail cup to return to Jerusalem -- or so it appears in my local Paper here in the US. I've made changes to both the Valiant & King Arthur articles.
- If you say so - the data I had (from Carlsen/If, European publishers of PV) said Murphy stopped drawing when Foster died. I don't think anything after that has ever published here. The only later stuff I was aware of is a bunch (4?) tributary magazines, but I think my copies of those are in english. Sorry for messing up, but at least it got corrected in both places now :-) OlofE 07:35, 26 Aug 2003 (UTC)
I don't know if you're getting the latest strips there in Sweden; a shame if you aren't. -- llywrch 17:48, 25 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- We absolutely don't, haha. We're ... a horribly small market. Valiant hasn't been in a daily or weekly since I learned to read at least, and I don't know of any mags carrying it. The only issues we have are the original series, which have never been completely published here (current european reissue series is ~ at album #25 of apprx 40, being done simultaneously in at least Swedish and German I believe). Sounds great, send me some copies :-) OlofE 07:35, 26 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Goths
Olaf, I am sorry for the whole Geat/Goth issues and your tiny incident with Wiglaf. Please accept my apologies. Lord Kenneð Alansson 21:15, 24 May 2004 (UTC)
- No problem. // OlofE 23:16, 24 May 2004 (UTC)
Thanks, and to let you know, I'll be not toying with those articles in the future. Lord Kenneð Alansson 03:49, 25 May 2004 (UTC)
Hjälp till med den engelska och svenska wikipedian
Thanks once again Olof, it is a pleasant day indeed when we get along maturely and resolutely on such a critical issue regarding Wikipedia. I have fluent use of my interface to the English Wikipedia where I was detested for some dalliances. I surely am impressed and think that you deserve that sainthood before your name Olaf as the patron of Norge does, heh. Very nice name, one held by the vikings who settled York as my forefathers did. I might name my son Olaf or Erik or both, after rulers of York.
I don't think I'll use Halfdan, it's just an odd thing to honour a Dane or Healfdan even. Lol, I couldn't even call him Dan! For all the times the Danes oppressed us Thulian/Scandic folks or foolishly tried, I don't think they deserve any more appreciation than the Normans. I don't even know who the patron of Danmark is, hah! I look to greater association between the British Isles, Foeroyar, Island and Scandinavia with Greenland, Canada and America that is keen on preserving that rich heritage of ours against the enveloping blob that we call Europa.
Some meta-Northland that defies the Continent would satisfy all of us, except Europa I am sure. Before I continue, I'll say of course I am American but I speak on behalf of Yorkshire minded people at least. There was a man by the name of Peter Addyman who gained a medal by some Norse agency for his excavations at Jorvik. But the reason I bring up the Americas is because it is a tad bit somewhat imploding and needs greater unity to it's roots that would of course demand Australia and New Zealand to move alongside. We do not need the UN or Europe, we need the Commonwealth of former Crown colonies and the Viking Congress in order to survive in the coming age which we have cracked.
Please write back, so we can discuss how we determine how the Danish Isles become the next Channel Islands! Lord Kenneð Alansson 04:51, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Heh, it's only a matter of propriety - if there's a doubt on whether someone is discriminated or singled out unappropriately, I wish to look into it. I make no promises on even taking part in ordinary moderator debates (such as relates to banning etc.) - indeed, on the Swedish wikipedia I will assist in bringing uncooperative contributors in line with consensus, to the best of my ability.
- If this happens again, I'll be sure to look you up. Thanks once more.
- I'm not sure how to interpret the agenda you suggest there... I think I have to respectfully decline. The Europe I love and live in stretches from Lissabon to Istanbul, from Cyprus to Hammerfest - and I'm a great fan of both the EU integration efforts and of the work of the UN.
- The patron saint of Denmark must be Canute the Saint - he is also the pattern after whom the Swedish national patron saint cult Eric the Saint was created. Plus of course, Norwegian Olav the Saint was also great inspiration (and cause of jealousy...) in the matter. // OlofE 12:51, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Olof, it's happened again. I believe that Mats Halldin is doing it, at least he's an instigator perhaps, to the sabotage. After I called him out on the problem at the Bybrunnen, he seems to have gotten me blocked and called me a Troll. I JUST THEN had to find another spy/ad/malware killer to take care of the problem again because the other one I had failed to extinguish that problem, despite killing all the others. That's why I doubt that this problem is not a user's sabotage at Wikipedia against me. Lord Kenneð Alansson 00:47, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand what is happening - you can post here (obviously), but not on the Swedish pedia? So it's opposite of what was the case the other day? I see there's an entry with your name in the block log on the Swedish pedia (at August 8 2004 11.21 pm, for 24 hours). So what is happening? If you ping the addresses of the pedias, what IPs do you get? I will try to help you at least insofar as verifying that no inappropriate dealings are going on. Btw, Mats Halldin is not the one who blocked you and he has no administrator rights on the english pedia./ OlofE 11:37, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I got another browser and another spyware remover so now I have two of each, as you and others suggested. This apparently allows me to circumvent anybody trying to crack into my computer by inserting something. I merely complained about the initial problem and Mats, along with others had merely banned me for showing up there. [1] (http://sv.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Wikipedia:Bybrunnen&oldid=200878#Something_Bizarre) [2] (http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Beg%E4ran_om_kommentarer#.2FK.E4nde_Aulan) The IP address was diverted before by some other one I forgot to write down but if it happens again, I'll be sure to put down the IP. I was not referring to any admin/sysop privileges, but downright wrong cracking attempts to sabotage the computer-website connection. There is one other person that may have had the capability, User:Decumanus(Matthew Trump in NYC) who is related to Donald Trump. He may have the connections and money to do something like that and the motive as he is Swedish(although I don't understand the conspiracy-just because I said I was Swedish-I'm of Viking English descent-are they/he embarrassed and feeling ridiculed by my behaviours?), as he was the one who originally went around getting people to commune at a page specifically designated for postulating whether to ban me or not [3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Kenneth_Alan&action=history). I'm not too knowledgeable about how one goes about doing it, but I've been told by others proficient with such things and unfortunately, there are such sick people out there. Lord Kenneð Alansson 12:11, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- While an attack by inserting scripts into the wiki source triggered for a particular user is technically possible, I believe it would require programmer rights - very few people on wikipedia (either language) have this, 2 or 3 on the Swedish pedia for instance - and would be very hard to hide. Making sure this was not the case was what I really had in mind. The only reason I felt even a remote need to check this was your reports that only wikipedia seemed affected by the the change. An effort to target your computer via the net itself on the other hand is not something I can help you with I'm afraid - standard measures of firewalls and browser security apply of course, but beyond that others are better suited than me. Connection hi-jacking/insertion is technically possible, but ... feasible? In a lab, yes. Against a random someone you dislike on the net? Hardly. Besides, somehow I believe the goals of such an attack would be rather more noticeable. Anyway, we need more data to say what it is you're experiencing. // OlofE 13:14, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Slakt/Ort
Hej Olof, would you please explain what the surname/placename Hassmyr/Hassmyra means? Jórvíkingr 07:13, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- I'll have to check some sources, it'll take a day or two. The first part (Hass-) isn't obvious, it could be some shortened form of Hans (the mansname, which in turn is a nordic/german short for Johannes) or it could be (more likely, methinks) a distorted geographical feature word. The suffix (-myr, -myra) is "mire" (ethymological identity here I'd guess), "bog", "heath". A wild guess would be that the placenames dates to 16th C or so, and surname is much more recent - but I'll get back in a few days on this. // OlofE 07:21, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Yes, I definitely agree that the Hass part is strange, while the myr/myra part is common to all the germanic tongues. Jórvíkingr 08:22, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Hassmyra is not in the most recent edition of Swedish placenames (Svenskt ortsnamnslexikon), and I can't find any other attempts to find its meaning either. It's old though - it's mentioned on a well known runestone that still stands there - well known because the stone was made after a woman. Only a dozen or so places in Sweden are mentioned in runestone texts, which puts that little village in quite an exclusive company (together with mostly otherwise insignificant villages of the same type hehe). But I can't produce any attempt at its meaning, nor can I find any info on the name though I'm still willing to bet that's very recent. // OlofE 18:45, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Hej Olof, tak varja mycket! Sveriges Nationalatlas och Lantmäteriet (http://www.sna.se/gazetteer.html) ar et god karta over Sverige! Jag found Hassmyra but ingen Hassmyran there. This sida ocksa har god info och har each namn: Directory of Cities, Towns, and Regions in Sweden (http://www.calle.com/world/SW/) Jag hoppa jag kan get better writing och speaking svenska! :) Kenneth Alanson 15:39, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- They're good - they're actually the closest things there are to an official Swedish map source - but they won't give historic detail:-) // OlofE 17:45, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Ah, yes I am aware of that. I figured to point you in a nice way if you should ever need such information. Your politeness in assistance is much appreciated, which is why I court your time so commonly. Kenneth Alanson 17:50, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
