About me

I used to live in San Francisco, hence SFDan. I currently live in Høje-Taastrup, Denmark, which is in the suburban Copenhagen area. I live with my man, Aksel. We are registered partners under Danish law.

I square dance and am a founding member of Mermaid City Squares (http://www.geocities.com/sfdan.geo/mermaidcity/), Copenhagen's gay square dance club. We are the first European member club of the IAGSDC (http://www.iagsdc.org), the International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs. I sit on the club's Board of Directors, handle the club's promotional activities and teach a Mainstream class. I am interested in increasing the awareness of gay square dancing and in promoting gay square dancing in Europe. To that extent I have recently formed a discussion group called Gay Square Dance Europe (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gaysdeurope).

I am currently taking square dance classes at Holbæk Square Dance Club (C1 level) with Thomas Samuelsson and at Midtsjællands Advanced & Challenge Club in Sorø with Michael Jørgensen.

I have been learning to call, and continue working on my craft. I have recently taken a week's intensive caller training with Lorenz Kuhlee (http://www.globalmusicproductions.biz/html/lorenz_kuhlee.html), Paul Bristow and Lone Blume (http://www.globalmusicproductions.biz/html/lone_blume.html) in Altleiningen, Germany. I have in the past attended caller training with Al Stevens, Wayne Morvent and Jeannette Stäuble in Göllheim, Germany, as well as having twice attended GCA (http://www.iagsdc.org/gca/) (Gay Callers Association) training courses. I am a member of this caller association. In their training sessions I have studied under, among others Anne Uebelacher, Darren Gallina, Andy Shore and Harlan Kerr. I have also attended a series of classes under Per Berg at Roskilde Square Dance Club.

I have previously taught country-western dance-- western line dance and couple dancing (two step, waltz, shuffle, etc.)-- in San Francisco, as well as tap dancing in Chicago. I have choreographed for the stage for the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus, and have directed a series of shows for the Razzle-Dazzle Production Company, Chicago.

When I am not dancing (or any of the other stuff listed above) I work in the IT department of a large international financial corporation, enjoy puttering in the yard, making delicious food, listening to music, travelling, reading and otherwise enjoying the good life with my sweetie, Aksel.
