Random Ruminations
In my opinion, one of the big problems in Wikipedia is that its effort to remove Americocentrism is in effect, leading to Eurocentrism and anti-Americanism. Two examples off the top of my head: On Current sports events, soccer was listed as "football" while the NFL was listed as "American football" at one point. Indeed, the football page mostly touches on soccer, even though there is also a Football (soccer) page.
The other one deals with Georgia, which, as many people know, is both a U.S. state and a country. As it stands now, just plain Georgia leads to a disambiguation page, which is fine. But there is a movement to move the country's page to Georgia, despite the fact that it has a smaller population than the state and doesn't speak English. Out of the top 50 hits for Georgia on Google, 46 are about the state, 2 are about the country, 1 is about Georgia O'Keeffe, and 1 is for a magazine named after the Georgian Straits in British Columbia. As a country I can see how Georgia should have equal status with the state, but come on...
