From TheBestLinks.com

The Ice Storm is a novel by Rick Moody published in 1994, and also a dramatic motion picture released in 1997 and based on the book.

Set during Thanksgiving, 1973, The Ice Storm tells of two suburban Connecticut families, the Hoods and the Carvers, and the difficulties they have dealing with the tumultuous political and social climate of the day. The story focuses on a brief period of time when an ice storm hits their town, just as both families are melting down from the parents' alcoholism and adultery, and their children's sexual experimentation.

The film version of The Ice Storm was directed by Ang Lee, and was written by Rick Moody (novel) and James Schamus. It was limitedly released in the United States on September 27, 1997 to widespread critical acclaim, though it grossed just $7.8 million on a budget of $18 million.
