A British film made in 1942 by Leslie Howard who starred and also directed, The 'First of the Few' is the fact-based story of R.J. Mitchell, the inventor of the Supermarine Spitfire. The title refers to the words of Winston Churchill when speaking of the Battle of Britain aircrew: "Never in the face of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few."
