Super Bowl IV was the fourth Super Bowl, the championship of American football. The game was played on January 11, 1970, at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The final result was the Kansas City Chiefs, 23, the Minnesota Vikings, 7.

The crowd of 80,562 was a Super Bowl record for attendance.

Playoffs

In the AFL Divisional Playoffs, the Chiefs faced off against the Super Bowl III champions, the New York Jets, with the Chiefs winning 13-6. The Oakland Raiders also played the Houston Oilers, blowing them out, 56-7. The Chiefs then faced the Raiders in the AFL Championship, defeating them, 17-7.

In the NFL Conference Championships, the Cleveland Browns defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 38-14 and the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 23-20. In the NFL Championship, the Vikings defeated the Browns, 27-7, for the NFL's Super Bowl berth.

Coming into the game, the Vikings were a 13-point favorite over the Chiefs.

The game

The Chiefs scored three field goals in the first 23 minutes and then capitalized with a touchdown off a fumbled punt by the Vikings to enter halftime with a 16-0 lead. The Vikings responded in the third quarter with a 10-play, 69-yard drive that was capped with a Dave Osborn rushing touchdown.

However, the Chiefs responded with their own drive, scoring on a 46-yard pass from quarterback Len Dawson three minutes later. The Chiefs would then go on to shut out the Vikings for the rest of the game, winning 23-7.

Len Dawson was named the Super Bowl MVP, the fourth consecutive quarterback MVP, for completing 12 of 17 passes for 122 yards and one touchdown.
