Skaun

From TheBestLinks.com

The municipality Skaun in the county of Sør-Trøndelag, Norway, has about 6,100 inhabitants (2004). The biggest towns and villages in Skaun are Buvika, Børsa, Venn, Viggja and Eggkleiva. The administration centre is situated in Børsa.

Skaun is dominated by country-side, but is nonetheless situated only 25 km from Norway's third largest city Trondheim. Most inhabitants, except agriculture and public sector workers, have their job outside the municipality, in Trondheim, Orkanger or Melhus.

Skaun is well-known for:

- Einar Tambarskjelve, the viking, and his Husaby. The legend says he used the four bauta stones in Børsa to fasten his boats to land. These bautas are theme for the Coat of arms of Skaun.

- Kristin Lavransdatter, triology written by the Nobel prize winner in literature Sigrid Undset. There is a celebration of this every year the second week-end in August. It takes place at Husaby, where Sigrid Undset lived during writing the second book (Husfrue/Houselady). The books also have big parts of their history from Husaby.
