Seibu Lions

The Seibu Lions (西武ライオンズ) is a professional baseball team in Japan's Pacific League. Their home is Seibu Dome in Tokorozawa, Saitama.

The Seibu Lions was founded in 1950 when two-league system started, and joined the Pacific League. First it was named Nishitetsu Clippers, but it has chenged the name 4 times to become Seibu Lions having Seibu railroad group as an owner today.

Seibu Lions became League Champions 19 times, including 8 League titles in 9 years when Akimasa Mori was directing the team(1986-1994) and won the Japan Series 11 times.

Pacific League Champions: 1954,1956, 1957, 1958, 1963, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1997, 1998, 2002

Japan Series Champions: 1956, 1957, 1958, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992

The first Japanese infielder to play in MLB, Kazuo Matsui(New York Mets) used to play in this team. Seibu Lions in the 2004 season consists of players such as Alex Cabrera and Daisuke Matsuzaka.
