Sardana

From TheBestLinks.com

Sardana is a type of dance typical from Catalonia.

There are two main types, the original sardana curta (short sardana) style and more modern sardana llarga (large sardana), which is more popular. Sardanas are danced in a circle dance. Other more strange sardanes are sardana de lluïment and sardana revessa.

Nobody knows how old are sardana but seems to were very popular at the 16th century. There is who thinks that is two milleniums old but these theories are few considerated.

The Sardana's music is played by a cobla which consist in 12 instruments played by 11 musican people. Four of these instruments (tenora, tible, flaviol and tamborí) are typical Catalan instruments the other are more popular.

The music of sardana (música de cobla) can be played alone or in coral. There are lots of letters for sardanes but when is played for dance only are played the instruments.
