Rustam

From TheBestLinks.com

Rustam (Rustam) also spelled as Rostam 740 BCE-660 BCE was the preeminent hero of the Shahnameh Epic. He was a commander general of Sistan (See Zawalistan) or Zabulistan. He was the son of King Zal and Rudabeh. His homeland is the surrounding Herimand river, or Kingdom of Zabulistan.

In Shahnameh he along with his parents all were mentioned by Ferdowsi to have lived over 500 years, that's more likely to be untrue, Ferdowsi increased their age to make his story more existing. Indeed he lived long and took major power of Sistan from his father Zal, while Zal was made a king in Kabul, Rustam may have lived above 50, and his father in mid 80s is said to be imprisoned or killed by Persian invasion, and was killed before Medes take over rest of Sistan 660 BCE. Under his father Zal's marriage to Rudhabeh princess of Kabulistan, Rustam's kingdom included Aria and Kabulistan clearly almost king of all of Afghan land.

Takht-e-Rustam is located in many areas of Afghanistan. However being a great commander of his troops and helping in restoring Kayanid (Medes) kingdom in Pars, earn himself a name to be remembered forever by Persians, and so a Takht-e-Rustam is also located in Parsia.
