The Realdoll is a life-size sex doll manufactured by Abyss Creations. The mannequins have durable PVC skeletons with steel joints and realistic feeling silicone flesh, which is arguably the state of the art today for lifelike sexual mannequins. It is designed to closely mimic the texture and weight of the human body. Some owners of such dolls choose to use them as sexual aids and masturbate with them, often dressing them up in special outfits first. Other owners use the dolls as stand-ins for human models in photographic or other art. Most undoubtedly use them in some combination of the two pursuits.
Female Realdolls are currently (February 2004) available in nine different body configurations, with fourteen different faces available, in five skin tones; Fair, Medium, Tanned, Asian and African. Due to the innovation of the interchangeable "Face-X" system, any face will fit on any body, and faces can be interchanged by the dolls owner. Innovations in silicone formulae, skeletal elements and storage allow for a doll that is less prone to tears and compression marks than older dolls, though they are by no means indestructible.
A male Realdoll, "Charlie", is also available, and shemale dolls can be custom ordered.
Shock jock Howard Stern has given a personal endorsement of the product after an on-air test. The doll was featured on HBO's Real Sex show where a couple was filmed having a ménage à trois with one of the mannequins.

- Nerve.com Review (http://www.nerve.com/regulars/ididitforscience/sexdoll/) - New and fairly thorough review of a Realdoll (a bit tongue in cheek). There are some inaccuracies in the article, for instance, the doll in the photographs is a body seven, and the busty doll the reviewers' friend would have gone for would be a body five or nine - not the B-cup body six. Some of the photos are a bit risque. Adults only. Will require a paid subscription (premium content).
