A monster from the video game series "Seiken Densetsu" (also known as the "Mana" series) developed by Square Enix.
Rabites range in color varying from yellow (the "plain" rabite), pink (also known as "rabilion"), white ("great rabite") and black (a hidden boss in Seiken Densetsu 3 and the only one known to use magic). In Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu (Sword of Mana), it is possible to "upgrade" the rabites into more powerful "black rabites" (not magic-using ones, though) by killing 1000 of them.
Rabites are known for their biting and leaping attacks. In Legend of Mana, they also have a "star" attack, which decreases its foes' special attack gauge.
Rabites can be kept as pets in Legend of Mana. Although not very strong in battles, they have a useful health recovery effect when they are in the player's party.
A rabite also appeared in the Legend of Mana manga by Shiro Amano, as a dangerous and cuddly comic relief character and emergency food ration for the main hero.
In the japanese version of the game, these creatures are simply called "Rabi".
