Plasma rifles are weapons often used in science fiction. Instead of the normal means of firing a metal projectile from a chamber, a fusion, fission, electrical, or other type of energy reaction fires an energy projectile. Plasma rifles, along with plasma pistols, laser guns and phasers, are only hypothetical weapons, as the amount of energy needed would be currently impossible to produce in a handheld device.
Plasma rifles may never come to reality, as the entire concept of a plasma rifle is scientifically unsound. The plasma shot out of a plasma rifle would dissipate immediately in the surrounding environment about 50 centimeters away from the gun, and the storage of the plasma would have be to facilitated by highly concentrated magnetic fields.
