Peter Lombard was a scholastic philosopher of the 12th century.
His family was poor, but the patronage of St. Bernard allowed him to study at Bologna, at Reims, and at Paris. He later became a professor at the school of Notre Dame in Paris.
He is most famous for his Libri quatuor sententiarum or Sentences. His philophical approach was heavilly influenced by Pierre Abélard.
The exact years of his birth and death are uncertain. He was born around 1100, and died some time between 1160 and 1164.
