NEC PC8801

From TheBestLinks.com

The NEC PC8801 system was produced by NEC Corporation in 1979. It was an early Zilog Z80-based computer commonly used in Japan. The NEC PC8801 was very popular in Japan, though it was never released anywhere else. Despite the fact that it could only display 8 out of 512 colors at the same time, it had a fairly high display resolution of 640x480. It especially shined in its sound producing capabilities, which were generally poor on other machines of the time. The machine shared quite a few games with the MSX, with companies such as Game Arts, ELF, Konami, and other large names in the industry today producing games for it.

The companies that produced the most software for this system include Enix, Champion Soft, Pony Canyon, T&E Soft, Starcraft, Taito Corporation, ASCII, Micro Cabin, PSK, and Bothtec.
