Misawa

Misawa (三沢市; -shi) is a city located in Aomori prefecture, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 42,799 and the density of 356.75 persons per km&sup2. The total area is 119.97 km².

Misawa hosts a United States Air Force base.

The city was founded on September 1, 1958.

The first successful nonstop transpacific flight, in the airplane Miss Veedol, took off from Misawa.
