Mike Timlin

From TheBestLinks.com

Mike Timlin (March 10, 1966), born Michael August Timlin in Midland, Texas, is a right-handed middle relief pitcher who plays for the Boston Red Sox. Before signing with the Red Sox prior to the 2003 season, he played for the Toronto Blue Jays (1991-1997), Seattle Mariners (1997-98), Baltimore Orioles (2000), St. Louis Cardinals (2000-02) and Philadelphia Phillies (2002).

An important man in the Boston bullpen, Timlin has a good comand of his 93 MPH fastball. He also throws a decent slider and a sinker that have a downward break, so he induces to hit a significant number of ground balls. He keeps runners close enough to give his catcher a chance. Defensively, he is below average.

In 13 seasons Timlin has a 51-55 record, with 664 strikeouts, 116 saves, a 3.56 ERA, 361 games finished, and 879 innings pitched in 736 games.

Quote

  • Mike Timlin ended the 1992 season as a genuine hero to an entire nation. Not only did he save the game that Toronto -and Canada- its first world title, but he made the final play himself on Otis Nixon's spine-tingling bunt. - STATS, Inc., 1994.
