McNary (Apache Chaabitoʼ) is a town located in Apache County, Arizona. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 349.

Geography

McNary is located at 34°4'36" North, 109°51'17" West (34.076687, -109.854674)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 14.4 km² (5.6 mi²). 14.2 km² (5.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.08% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 349 people, 91 households, and 73 families residing in the town. The population density is 24.5/km² (63.5/mi²). There are 101 housing units at an average density of 7.1/km² (18.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 8.31% White, 2.58% Black or African American, 82.81% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.87% from other races, and 3.44% from two or more races. 11.17% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 91 households out of which 63.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.0% are married couples living together, 31.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.7% are non-families. 16.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.84 and the average family size is 4.18.

In the town the population is spread out with 48.7% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 9.5% from 45 to 64, and 3.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 19 years. For every 100 females there are 87.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $4,375, and the median income for a family is $0. Males have a median income of $36,875 versus $18,375 for females.
