A jackhammer is a hand-held power tool used to demolish ground covering materials, such as pavement, concrete, or stone. A jackhammer is generally used for small amounts of demolition; larger work is often done with such things as backhoes. The jackhammer is impratical for use on walls and steep angles; it relies on its weight to operate, and is highly difficult (and impractical) to use in such situations.
