Izmir Province

From TheBestLinks.com

Izmir (Turkish spelling İzmir) is a province of Turkey in the western Anatolia on the Aegean coast. On the west it is surrounded by Aegean sea, and it encloses the Izmir Gulf (in Turkish İzmir Körfezi). Neighbouring provinces are Balıkesir on the north, Manisa on the east, and Aydın on the south. Its traffic plate number is 35, and its capital is İzmir city.

The city population of Izmir is estimated to be between 3 to 3,5 million.

Other than the districts of Izmir city and its suburbs and towns around it (Karşıyaka, Konak, Buca, Bornova, Çiğli, Gaziemir, Balçova, Narlıdere, Güzelbahçe), the important towns in the province include (roughly from north to south) Bergama, Kınık, Dikili, Aliağa, Foça, Karaburun, Menemen, Kemalpaşa, Çeşme, Urla, Menderes, Seferihisar, Torbalı, Bayındır, Ödemiş, Kiraz, Tire, Beydağ, and Selçuk.

The main rivers of the province are Küçük Menderes Nehri, Koca Çay (with Güzelhisar dam), and Bakır Çay.
