Irish Army Rangers

From TheBestLinks.com

The Irish Army Rangers are the special forces unit of the Army division of the Irish Defence Forces. The unit is regarded internationally as one of the most elite special forces units in the world, along with the British SAS with whom they occassionally train. The unit's offical name is "Sciathán Fianóglach an Airm", which translates into English as "The Army Ranger Wing".

The Army Rangers are also charged with the handling of hostage situations involving members of government and visiting diplomats, whereas the Emergency Response Unit of An Garda Síochána (Irish Police Force), who train with the Army Rangers, deal with civilian hostage situations.

The Army Rangers have seen active service assisting peacekeepers in East Timor and Lebanon.
