Glitch City is a glitch that occurs in the Pokémon video game Red, Blue and Yellow versions. It can be triggered by doing (in order) the following:
- Bring a Pokémon that knows Fly and a Pokemon that knows Surf.
- Go into the Safari Zone and then go back out through the same door.
- When asked, "Leaving early?" say no.
- After being sent back into the Safari Zone, save the game, shut it off, and turn it back on.
- Leave the Safari Zone again, and you will be asked if you want to enter the Safari Zone and pay $500, even though you are already in there. Say no.
- You will be sent back into Fuchsia City. Once you are in Fuchsia City use a Pokémon to Fly to Cinnabar Island.
- Go to the east (right) coast, and Surf up and down with a Pokemon that knows surf. You will run into Pokémon that are usually seen in the Safari Zone. Surf until an announcement comes up that says "Ding-Dong!". (This takes about 7 minutes.)
- You will be sent to the Safari building. Leave and then you will be in Glitch City.
There is more than one Glitch City, and one can find them by going somewhere other than Cinnabar (like Cycling Road or Victory Road).
The only way out of Glitch City is to fly out, so if one saves the game, he or she should make sure there's a Pokémon that can fly out. Going too far to the left or right will often get the player stuck in an invisible wall. If one presses Start, often the city changes. Although similar, there doesn't seem to be a connection with the Missingno. glitch, other than the fact that Missingno. and the most obtainable Glitch City can be found off the coast of Cinnabar.
In Glitch City, pixels and graphics from different parts of the game are mixed up. The land and water can also be mixed up so sometimes it appears that the player is standing on water or surfing on land. This is usually caused by using a fishing rod or pausing the game (which causes parts of Glitch City to change). If the whole city turns to water (which is sometimes possible), the player can keep surfing forever until the player gets stuck or the game automatically shuts off.
The Safari Zone was not included in the Gold, Silver and Crystal versions, and since the Safari Zone is needed to complete this glitch, it is impossible to do it in these 3 versions. It is believed that the Safari Zone was not included in the Gold, Silver and Crystal games because of Glitch City's presence, although there is still remaining code and a map of Safari Zone in the three games. In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire one must exit the Safari Zone by using the start menu and selecting retire and you cannot return to the safari zone lobby while using the safari zone. This was most likely done to prevent a Glitch City type glitch in Ruby and Sapphire.
Glitch City is also known as Sunny Town. (There's no city named Sunny Town in the games.)
