From TheBestLinks.com

Frederikshavn (originally named Flatstrand) is a municipality in northern Denmark, in the county of North Jutland on the peninsula of Jutland. The municipality covers an area of 180 km², and has a total population of 34,853.

Historically, Frederikshavn has always been a naval base of some strategic importance due to its proximity to the entrance to the Baltic sea. The Krudttårnet (Powder Tower), constructed in 1688 has been preserved and is incorporated in the coat of arms of the municipality.

Frederikshavn has ferry connections to Oslo and Larvik in Norway and Gothenburg in Sweden.
