External combustion engine

From TheBestLinks.com

ja:外燃機関

An external combustion engine is an engine which burns its fuel outside of the engine. Examples include steam engines and Stirling engines. In general external combustion engines are less compact than internal combustion engines, and sometimes less efficient, but are much less particular about the type of fuel they burn.
