An endplay in bridge is a tactical play in which a defender is put on lead at a strategic point in a bridge deal, and this defender has to make a losing move. The losing move could be leading into a tenace or giving declarer a ruff and discard. An example is this:
South is playing in 6S with these hands.
(1) A 9 8 5 3 2
K J 5 4
4
K 4
K 7 6 4
A T 9
A 8 7
A Q 9
West leads the diamond king, and south can see 12 tricks if the adverse spades are divided 2-1 (6 spade tricks, 2 hearts, 1 diamond and 3 clubs). But if the spades are 3-0, he will need an endplay. He should win the diamond ace, ruff a diamond in dummy, cash spade ace and spade king (discovering a 3-0 break) and ruff another diamond in dummy. Now he should cash three rounds of clubs throwing a heart from dummy, reaching this position:
(2) 9 8
K J 5

7 6
A T 9

He exits with a spade, and whoever wins is endplayed. He has to lead a heart into the tenace, or give a ruff and discard. South will ruff in one hand discard a heart from the other.
