Eeklo is a municipality in the province of East Flanders, in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium. The municipality only comprises the city of Eeklo proper. On January 1st, 2000 Eeklo had a total population of 19,069 (9,316 males and 9,753 females). The total area is 30.44 km² which gives a population density of 626.45 inhabitants per km².
