Dorothy Gale

Dorothy Gale is the protagonist of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and many of its sequels. An orphan raised by her aunt and uncle in the gray, featureless landscape of a Kansas farm, she is swept by a tornado to the Land of Oz. Like Alice, she enters a lively alternative world filled with talking creatures.

Dorothy's surname, Gale, is first mentioned in Ozma of Oz.

In the 1939 movie, Dorothy was played by Judy Garland.
