D'Hoffryn was a fictional character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was the leader of the vengeance demons, a group of formerly human demons who are endowed with mystical powers and envoke curses at the behest of mortals who've experienced wrong-doing.
D'Hoffryn was in Sweden in medieval times where he met a young woman named Aud, who'd recently used magic to turn her cheating boyfriend into a troll. He offered Aud a position as vengeance demon, and she became Anyanka, patron saint of scorned women. When Anyanka failed to exact vengeance on behalf of Cordelia Chase during season 3, D'Hoffryn forced Anyanka to live as a human teenager named Anya. In season 4, D'Hoffryn attempted to convince a newly-dumped Willow to become a vengeance demon. She declined, but D'Hoffryn left his amulet (a tool to summon him) in case she changed her mind.
In Season 6, D'Hoffryn was a guest at the failed wedding of Anya and Xander. When Xander left Anya at the altar, D'Hoffryn reinstated her powers and once again made her a vengeance demon.
Anya's second stint as a vengeance demon in season 7 proved short-lived, and during a confrontation between Anya and Buffy, Willow summoned D'Hoffryn to help put a stop to the fighting. D'Hoffryn asked Anya what she wanted, and she said that she wanted to reverse the vengeance she'd done. D'Hoffryn granted her wish, but killed Anya's friend Halfrek as the price of granting her wish. D'Hoffryn then left, disgusted with Anya, and was never seen again.
D'Hoffryn was played by Andy Umburger.
