Coldstream

From TheBestLinks.com

Coldstream is a burgh in the Scottish Borders. It lies on the north bank of the River Tweed, while England lies on the south bank. The town is well known as the home of the Coldstream Guards British Army regiment, and is also noted as the location where Edward I of England invaded Scotland in 1296.

In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Coldstream was a popular centre for runaway marriages, in a similar vein to Gretna Green, as it lay on a major road (now the A697). Notable buildings in the town include the toll house where marriages were conducted, and the Hirsel House mansion.

Coldstream is a also a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
