Discovered in 1903 by Dr. E. S. Riggs. Brachiosaurus thrived in the late Jurassic period of the Mesozoic era. The species is most notable for its long front limbs (its name is from the Greek brachion "arm" + sauros "lizard") and the extraordinary long neck, which it is thought could be held upright for a short time. Complete fossil skeletons have been found in Tanzania, and partial remains in North America, showing a length of around 25 metres. Brachiosaurus was a herbivore, feeding on the vegetation of the period. Pronunciation: BRACK-ee-oh-SAW-rus
