Bo Xilai

Bo Xilai (薄熙来) (born July 1949) is a politician of the People's Republic of China.

He was born in Dingxiang (定襄), Shanxi province, the son of Bo Yibo (薄一波), one of the Eight Immortals of Communist China.

Bo earned a bachelor's degree in world history from Beijing University and a master's degree from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

He joined the Communist Party of China in October 1980.

He was mayor of Dalian, Liaoning province from 1993 to 2001.

He was the governor of the Liaoning province from 2001 to 2004, and transferred to head the Ministry of Commerce on February 12, 2004.
