Battlezone (computer game)

From TheBestLinks.com

Battlezone is a re-make of the original arcade game of the same name for Microsoft Windows. It was released by Activision in 1998. Aside from the name and presence of tanks, this game bears little resemblence to the original game. Activision remade it into somewhat of a hybrid between a tank sim, a first-person shooter and a real-time strategy game.

Overview

The game has two campaigns, the American campaign and the Russian campaign. Set in the height of the Cold War, the game details a fictional war in space that, in the context of the game, was hidden from the media. The war was over a substance called bio-metal.

Experiments into creating super-soldiers using the members of the Black Dog Squadron result in a rebellion, and the USA and Soviet Union join forces to crush the rebellion.

Legacy

Activision released a sequel in 1999, Battlezone II: Combat Commander, which involved a war resulting from the incursion of a race of extraterrestrials known as the Scions.

The game was ported to other systems by Crave Entertainment. In 2000, Crave ported the game to the Nintendo 64 and in 2001, curiously, to the Amiga.
