Ayaan Hirsi Ali

From TheBestLinks.com

Drs. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a member of Dutch Parliament (Tweede Kamer), for the Dutch Liberal Right Wing Democratic Party VVD.

In 2002 she was in the news due to her strong criticism of the Islamic culture and also for her switch from the Social Democratic PvdA party (as a scientific worker at the Wiardi Beckman Foundation, to the VVD (as a member of Parliament).

Her opinion was that there wasn't enough room or support within the PvdA for criticisms on the negative consequences of certain social-cultural aspects of migrants. In her book "de Zoontjesfabriek" she also admits that the chance the VVD offered her to become a member of the 2nd chamber—and thus letting her put forth her ideas in parliament—was an important factor in her decision.

In an interview with the daily paper Trouw (Saturday 25 July 2003, she said of the prophet Mohammed, the founder of Islam "measured by our western measures, he is a perverse man. A tyrant". Several Islamic organisations and individual Muslims filed charges for discrimination. However, Hirsi Ali was not prosecuted. According to the prosecutor her criticism "does not contain any conclusions with regard to Muslims, and the worthiness of them as a group is not denied."
