Apophenia

From TheBestLinks.com

Apophenia is a term coined in 1958 by K. Conrad in a neurological or psychiatric context for the propensity of the mind to see patterns or connections in random or meaningless data.

In statistics, apophenia is called a Type I error.

Apophenia is often used as an explanation of paranormal and religious claims.

It has been suggested that apophenia is a link between psychosis and creativity.
