From TheBestLinks.com

Amnon Rubinstein is an Israeli politician, publicist and Law expert.

He was born in Tel Aviv in 1931 and has a Ph.D degree in Law from London University. He was formerly the dean of Tel Aviv University Law faculty.

Political career

Rubinstein began his way in politics by founding "Shinui" - a pertest movement after Yom Kippur War. Shinui joined Yigal Yadin's "The Democratic Movement" to form Dash party. It ran to election in 1997 and won 15 seats on the expense of the Israeli Labor party voter, thus enabling the Likud to win the elections and the prime-minister chair after 29 years of Labor government. However, Rubinstein didn't joined Menachem Begin's government.

During the 12th Assembly of the Knesset, Rubinstein's Shinui merged with Shulamit Aloni's RATZ and Zionist-socialist Mapam to form Meretz - a dovish, social-democrat and liberal party.

Meretz joined Itzhak Rabin's government in 1992 and Rubinstein acted as the Minister of Communication. However, Education Minister Shulamit Aloni was forced to resign from her office after anti-religious expressions following an argument about Darwin's evolution theory and was replaced by Rubinstein.

As an Education Minister, Rubinstein earned popularity because of his liberal approach, which de-facto manifest in reduction of subject of the Bagrut exams (the subject were chosen in a raffle each year). He also spoke against "Physcometri" exams (S.A.T exams which sort candidate for the Israeli universities) and declared that he could not reach Law school if he should have pass an S.A.T exam.

A strange accident occurred in 2000, when the Knesset chairman Avraam Burg announced his death and mourned on him with extreme pathos. Rubinstein, who was hospitalize then (but with no life danger) saw his "funeral" on television. It was later turned out that the Burg was hoaxed by a weird queer named Shoshi Zalman.

In 2000, Rubinstein left Meretz and retired from politics in favor of academic activity. He is now the dean of the Law Colleague in Netanya.

During 2000-2004 Rubinstein published articles and opinion-columns in Haaretz newspaper, which most of them concentrated on fighting antisemitism. He focused mainly on antisemitism and anti-Zionism which originate from Europe and the radical left. In one of his more famous articles, Rubinstein debunked Human Rights groups for picking off to Israel while putting a blind eye for far worse atrocities committed by Arabs (such as Palestinian terrorism and the ethnic cleansing in Sudan).

In 2004 Rubinstein stopped write for Haaretz and started to write for Maariv.
