Academic Assembly is a common name the legislative branch of many university student governments. Universities that call their legislative councils "Academic Assembly" include Michigan State University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Bath, Seattle University, and California State University, - Monterrey Bay.
Michigan State University
Michigan State's Academic Assembly comprises one half of the ASMSU undergradute student government, along with the Student Assembly. At MSU, the Academic Assembly has control over academic affairs, and controls thirty seats in the University Academic Governance System. It has two representatives per college, like the U.S. Senate.
The ASMSU Academic Assembly has three officers and one staff member. The Chair, Internal Vice-Chair and External Vice-Chair are elected each April by the newly-elected representatives. The Assembly ususally - but not always - votes its own members to leadership positions. The one staff member, the Dugba is hired by a Human Resources hiring committee.
Pennsylvania State University
Penn State's Academic Assembly is part of USG, the University Student Government]]. It is the main unicameral assembly for Penn State's State College campus. It does not represent other campuses in the Penn State system.
