Abarat is a children's fiction book both written and illustrated by Clive Barker. The book is in both hardcover and paperback editions, with ISBN 0060280921, 388 pages. It was first published in 2002 by Joanna Colter Books. Abarat is the setting where the book is based. There are three planned sequels to Abarat.
The book Abarat revolves around the strange world of the Abarat, the location of twenty-five islands, called Hours, where it always the same time. For example, on the mythical island of Pyon, it is always 3:00 in the morning. The only exception is the mysterious 25th Hour. The arrival of Candy Quackenbush from our own world sparks remarkable events around the Abarat as Candy journeys about the islands, which are detailed below.
Islands of the Abarat
- 1:00 AM The Pyramids of Xuxux. This Hour is a series of pyramids, six in all. Four of these pyramids have been broken into and looted, but the other two pyramids remain untouched by their invincible locks. These remaining two can be opened by a Key, but known locations of it are ambiguious. The book Abarat also hints at the fact that something living remains in the two locked pyramids.
